Burton’s Favourite Radio Station and Swadlincote’s Best-loved Magazine Unite!
With a passion for community at their core, Burton Radio’s Sales & Marketing Director and Presenter, Scott Milligan, and SwadStyle’s Editor and Publisher, Ingrid van der Weide, are thrilled to announce a media partnership.
This collaboration bridges the gap between Burton upon Trent and Swadlincote, allowing Burton Radio - the community hub for Burton’s diverse culture, history, and current affairs - to bring Swadlincote’s past and present stories to life, while SwadStyle’s wide circulation introduces Burton’s stories to a new audience.
Operating from The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton, Burton Radio hosts a variety of weekly shows covering business, sport, comedy, family, music, community, theatre, art, culture, and politics, with a growing audience of 5,000 regular listeners. Alongside over 30 popular shows, the station’s Snoozy Breakfast Show (6-9am weekdays) features 2-3 guests daily, each contributing insights within three core areas: art, community, and business on www.burtonradio.co.uk
Similarly, SwadStyle magazine, with a circulation of nearly 20,000 copies per month, showcases local news, businesses, events, and community information, celebrating the diversity of Swadlincote and its surrounding areas.
As part of the partnership, a new Monday lunchtime show will be hosted by SwadStyle. Ingrid van der Weide shared her excitement: “I am so excited by the opportunity to bring some of our stories to life on the radio, delve deeper into the issues we write about, and collaborate with a community hub that shares our values.” Scott Milligan added: “I live in Swadlincote and have been receiving SwadStyle magazine at home for years. I’ve always been impressed by its quality content and design, so working together just made sense. I can’t wait to start this journey together.”
“A Burton Radio / SwadStyle Media Partnership makes perfect sense. Both are community champions and the Burton & District Chamber of Commerce wish them every success” Richard Wileman, Burton & District Chamber of Commerce President.
Radio station co-founder and fellow director Matt Reid concluded "We're all really glad to be bridging the gap between our two towns, obviously we're a Burton based radio station but we also really want to include the surrounding areas as much as possible. We're all part of the same community, despite what a county border may tell us."
The new Monday lunch hour show will air from 12–1pm, starting on 17th February 2025.
Meanwhile, Burton Radio is also preparing to launch its own tabloid broadsheet, Burton Echo, in print this summer.
